Your Wasabi Farms is the first company to receive a license from Health Canada to supply greenhouse grown wasabi capsules to the natural health products industry.
Because of wasabi’s proven ability to fight free radicals, these capsules are an approved source of anti-oxidants.
Wasabi has also been extensively studied and has initially been found to have anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet aggregation and anti-cancer properties.
Your Wasabi Farms capsules were recently launched at the Canadian Health Foods trade show in Toronto, receiving significant interest from retailers, distributors, and industry professionals.
An ancient herb, wasabi has been cultivated in Japan for more than 1000 years, and was first referenced in a medical dictionary in 918 AD where its health properties were first documented.
Wasabi is a very difficult plant to grow, requiring specific conditions to thrive, such as water temperature, water purity, Ph level, ambient temperature and humidity, all of which impact this delicate plant.
Greenhouses provide the ideal solution to these problems, along with the ever present insect problem.
Leveraging 16 years of experience growing vegetables in greenhouses, Your Wasabi Farms grows wasabi at its Greater Vancouver greenhouse operation.
Upon maturity, at approximately 15 months, the wasabi plant is removed from its growing media, dried using proprietary technology and then ground into a fine powder before being inserted into capsules.
Wasabi is a member of the cruciferous family of vegetables, which are particularly rich in compounds called glucosinolates, precursors of another compound known as an ITC.
When glucosinolates, which normally remain separated from other compounds in the cell, merge with a key enzyme after the plant’s cell wall is broken through processing or chewing, ITCs are created, which give wasabi its numerous health benefits.
Although most people know that raw vegetables are packed with important nutrients, many people fail to eat the recommended quantities.
In addition, many people prefer cooked vegetables, often overcooking them, destroying the very nutrients they are seeking to acquire.
Fortunately, many of these important nutrients like Vitamin C, Vitamin B 6, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, Magnesium, Folate and fiber are now available in the form of Wasabi capsules.
